Professor Karen McKinnon has been promoted to Associate Professor, effective July 1, 2024. This promotion includes a two-year acceleration in recognition of her outstanding achievements in research, teaching, and service. Professor McKinnon holds a joint appointment in the Department of Statistics and Data Science and the Institute of the Environment and Sustainability (IoES).
An internationally recognized climate scientist, Professor McKinnon’s research focuses on extreme climate events and their societal impacts. Her innovative use of statistical methods to understand compound climate extremes and land–atmosphere interactions has made significant contributions to both science and policy. She has been recognized as a global leader in climate science, with a strong commitment to mentoring and teaching.
