JOSHUA SPARKS JOINED THE UCLA DEPARTMENT OF STATISTICS AND DATA SCIENCE as a lecturer in winter 2025. He previously worked as a mathematical statistician at the US Census Bureau, and he earned his PhD in Statistics at The George Washington University, where his research focused on discrete random structures within applied probability. He has also presented research in statistical communication and writing within statistics education. He is thrilled to join the department at UCLA and assist in expanding these research endeavors both inside and outside of the classroom. In his free time, he enjoys attending concerts, cinema, and other shows as well as giving back to both the GEAR UP and TRIO college access programs.
